Numerous scientific papers show that in all closed footwear, due to the natural transpiration process of the foot, the internal microclimate becomes saturated with water vapour in less than an hour, decreasing comfort, reducing athletic performance (slipping of the foot in the shoe), increasing the risk of injury 

Approximately 80% of sweat is generated under the bottom of the foot, where there are five times more sweat glands (+500%) than on the back of the foot per unit area. 
The bottom of the foot is the most difficult part to ventilate because it is constantly in contact with the footbed of the shoe.

The high humidity, and temperature close to body temperature, creates the ideal microclimate for skin maceration, the growth of fungi, bacteria, yeasts and fungi.  These microorganisms
metabolise skin lipids, keratin and sweat, giving rise to amines and fatty acids responsible for the typical foot odour (bromhidrosis).
